Access Control
The standard key-and-lock security systems no longer fulfill today's demanding security requirements and audit reporting. The traditional key has become obsolete in facilities that require restricted site access to various groups of personnel. A key can be lost, stolen, or duplicated which potentially risks a security breach. The process of changing locks and re-issuing keys is costly and time consuming. The solution is to issue an electronic "key" that can be programmed to operate specific doors based on location and time (access level). The lost or stolen electronic "key" can easily be programmed not to operate any doors in the facility, all this with a few simple key strokes. A door controlled by a card reader and electric latch can also secure any door or room that can be secured with a traditional lock and key. With this configuration only authorized personnel can gain entry to a restricted area based on the time of day and day of the week. The Host computer automatically records the individual's access into an area and logs the events time and day for possible review.. This allows for reports to be generated based on the individual, a group of individuals, the specific location, or the entire facility. The basic configuration consist of individual coded access cards, Fob's (credentials), card readers, door strikes, contact switches, and an access control panels and Access Control Software.
We are begining to see a new level of integration between the Digital Video Recorders and mainstream platforms, synchronization and video clip retrieval being one of the benefits of this integration. License plate software is the new buzz in the industry wherein the video system will incorporate text conversion software and forward the data to a host PC for credential verification.
In recent past we are seeing an increase in biometric interfaces to access platforms in the form of, hand geometry, retinal scanners and face recognizing devices. This new form of credential is not yet common or mainstream though many institutions require this extra level of verification because it is a unique and non-duplicable.
